Jasper van Kuijk

Jasper van Kuijk is an Assistant Professor in Information Systems at Karlstad University since 2025, with a concurrent part-time Assistant Professor position at Delft University of Technology's Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering since 2012. Van Kuijk's research focuses on designing digital information systems that are useful for individuals, beneficial for society, and effective for organizations. His work emphasizes user- and human-centered design, sustainability, social responsibility, inclusion, and interorganizational collaboration. His research approach is primarily qualitative, examining how organizational design and development processes shape outcomes in terms of usability, sustainability, and inclusion.

His publication record reveals a clear trajectory from early work on usability in consumer electronics development to increasingly broader applications in transportation systems, public services, and sustainability. Recent publications show significant engagement with multimodal transport systems, circular economy principles, and public service design. Van Kuijk actively supervises graduate students and teaches courses on design and innovation of digital systems and services. He currently supervises two PhD projects: one on developing seamless multimodal travel services combining air and rail, and another on designing public services that align with both individual citizen needs and collective democratic requirements.

He founded the Expertise Centre for E-ticketing in Public Transport (X-CEPT) at TU Delft, where students and researchers collaborate with the transportation sector. Currently, he is involved in the Re:Value project, which studies stakeholder perspectives in the development of circular trucks. His work consistently emphasizes the importance of close collaboration between academic institutions and industrial or societal partners to achieve relevant and applicable research results.
