معرفی
Jason Townsend is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Biology at Hamilton College. His research focuses on conservation biology, with emphasis on migratory bird ecology, ecotoxicology, and sustainable agroecosystems. He conducts field studies across diverse regions including the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and New York, and integrates academic work with practical farming as owner of Kingfisher Farm—a certified organic operation that engages Hamilton students in sustainable agriculture.
Education
- Ph.D. from SUNY-College of Environmental Science and Forestry
- B.S. from University of Vermont
Research Focus
Townsend investigates wildlife responses to agricultural practices, mercury bioaccumulation in terrestrial ecosystems, and conservation strategies for Caribbean birds. His work bridges field ecology and applied sustainability, notably through research on organic farming benefits for biodiversity.
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on avian conservation, ecotoxicology, and agroecology across Caribbean and North American ecosystems, with recent emphasis on farmland habitat management and species-specific ecological responses.
Honors
- U.S. EPA STAR Fellowship (2008-11)
- NSF GK-12 Fellowship (2007-08)
- NY Biodiversity Research Institute Fellowship (2008)
He maintains professional ties with Birds Caribbean, Northeast Organic Farming Association, and Friends of the Oneida County Public Market.
