Jason Stumpff is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019 and is a member of the UVM Cancer Center.
Education:
- B.S. in Biology, Eckerd College (1998)
- Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, University of Colorado Boulder (2004)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Washington Seattle (2005-2011)
Dr. Stumpff’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cell division, particularly the role of mitotic spindle dynamics and kinesin motor proteins in preventing chromosome segregation errors. His work has direct implications for understanding cancer, miscarriages, and monosomy/trisomy syndromes.
Scientific Awards:
- Dean’s Excellence in Research Award (2019, presented to Leslie and Jason)
Advising and Collaborations: The Stumpff Lab team includes Amila Semic, Kira Fisher, Ethan Wagner, and Sarah-Catherine Paschall. The lab employs quantitative cell biology and single-molecule techniques to explore mitotic regulation.
