Jason Newport is an Adjunct Professor in the English Department at Meredith College, where he teaches first-year composition and critical reading courses. His academic work combines creative writing instruction with interdisciplinary research, including a Fulbright appointment at the University of Pécs in Hungary (2016-17) where he taught postcolonial literature and conducted archival research. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing (Fiction) from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and a BA in English from University of Maryland University College.
His research interests span creative writing pedagogy, postcolonial literature analysis, literary translation practices, and the intersection of Hungarian literature with broader European intellectual traditions. He has been recognized with prestigious awards including the Fulbright grant and Pushcart Prize nominations for his literary contributions.
Newport has published extensively across genres including poetry, short fiction, and literary criticism in journals such as Three Percent, Cleaver Magazine, and Chautauqua. He has also contributed to educational initiatives through course design for Southwestern College's Professional Studies program and editorial work with the Chautauqua journal since 2012.
