Dr. Jason Ford is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology at the University of Central Florida. He holds B.A. degrees in History and Sociology from Bowling Green State University, an M.A. in Criminal Justice Studies from Kent State University, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Bowling Green State University with concentrations in quantitative methodology and crime/deviance.
His research focuses on two core areas: (1) substance use patterns among adolescents and young adults, including legal highs like prescription drugs, synthetic marijuana, and salvia, and (2) life course criminology examining stability/change in criminal offending. He explores factors like athletics involvement, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, and higher education's role in shaping substance use behaviors.
Recent research has emphasized prescription drug misuse motives across age cohorts, healthcare utilization disparities linked to employment/insurance status, and gender differences in medical cannabis use outcomes. His work bridges criminological theory with public health interventions, addressing issues like opioid crises and polysubstance use trends.
Award information is not listed in available records. His teaching includes courses like Introduction to Sociology, Criminology, and graduate-level topics in substance abuse sociology. He maintains a lab focused on interdisciplinary substance use research with a criminological lens.
