Jason Bohland is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Science and Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh. He directs the Speech Neural Systems lab, focusing on understanding the brain circuits underlying speech planning and production. His research employs computational modeling, psychophysics, functional MRI, and large dataset analysis to study speech representation in both typical and disordered populations.
Dr. Bohland holds a BS in Computer Engineering and MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and a PhD in Cognitive and Neural Systems from Boston University. He previously served as faculty in Health Sciences and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at Boston University, and was Associate Director of the Cognitive Neuroimaging Center there before joining Pitt in 2019.
His work integrates multidisciplinary approaches to advance mechanistic understanding of speech neural systems. As part of the PNC Training Faculty, he contributes to graduate training in neural computation.
