Jason A Deakings

Jason A Deakings is an Assistant Professor in the Behavioral and Community Health Sciences department at the University of Pittsburgh, with primary affiliation at the Center for Health Equity. He is a health equity and social justice scholar focused on addressing structural inequities impacting Black and Brown communities.

His research explores clinical setting interactions with Black communities, emphasizing Black women’s health outcomes, non-traditional healing methods (e.g., Sister Circles, Black Feminist Thought), and health equity advocacy. Publications highlight HPV vaccination compliance, clinical trial trust, and pediatric service uptake.

Deakings teaches courses on social determinants of health, community-engagement, and research justice, while supporting grant funding and capacity building for marginalized communities. He is available as a PhD advisor for 2025-26.
