Jasmin Baumgartner is a PhD researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and the Cosmopolis Centre for Urban Research, affiliated with the Department of Geography. Her research focuses on the spatial embeddedness of the circular economy in Brussels (1980–present), supervised by David Bassens and Niels De Temmerman. Funded by the interdisciplinary 'Re-building Brussels (1695–2025)' program, her work examines urban transitions, construction sectors, and social inclusion.
She holds a Master's in Urban Studies from the University of Amsterdam (2020–2022), where her thesis analyzed housing policies' impact on non-European students' rental pathways in Amsterdam and Brussels. Her research spans urban circular economies, territorial dynamics, and just urban building regimes.
Recent contributions include studies on land use for circular economies in post-industrial cities and presentations at workshops on topics like 'Life after Demolition' and 'Spatial Materialization of the Circular Economy.' She actively participates in interdisciplinary projects linking construction, sustainability, and urban planning.
