Jarrett Lewis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He holds dual appointments in the College of Education and the Center for Social & Behavioral Science. His research focuses on psychological trauma mechanisms among Black/African American youth and adults, emphasizing culturally informed interventions to address violence and racial trauma. Lewis completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology at DePaul University and a postdoctoral fellowship in trauma psychology at Rush University Medical Center.
Education: PhD in Clinical Child Psychology (DePaul, 2020), MA in Clinical Psychology (DePaul, 2016), MS in Psychology (University of Memphis, 2012), BS in Psychology (Jackson State University, 2010).
Research explores intersections of racial identity, masculinity, and healing practices among Black males. His TRIAD Lab (Trauma, Race, Identity, and Development) develops community-based interventions for mental wellness. Recent work examines gender and racial disparities in trauma outcomes and systemic racism's psychological impacts.
Teaching includes courses on multicultural counseling, group therapy, and advanced educational psychology seminars. He advises graduate students in counseling psychology programs and collaborates on trauma-informed policy initiatives.
