Dr. Jarosław Cebulski is a researcher at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IGiPZ PAN), specializing in geomorphology with particular focus on landslide processes in the Polish Carpathians. He earned his PhD in Earth Sciences in 2021 and is currently holding a postdoctoral position at Sapienza Università di Roma working on the BAD2BED project (BADland morphodynamics assessment and hillslope-channel BED coupling in the context of global change).
His educational background includes a Bachelor's degree (2008-2011) and Master's degree (2011-2013), both completed at the Pedagogical University of Kraków, Faculty of Geography and Biology, Institute of Geography. His bachelor's thesis focused on destructive aspects of mass movements on the Tubendza landslide in Szczepanowice, while his master's thesis examined landslide development of slopes in the area of Szczepanowice and Dąbrówka Szczepanowska.
Dr. Cebulski's research primarily centers on dynamic geomorphology, particularly the interaction between landslides and river channels in the Polish Flysch Carpathians. He employs advanced techniques including terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), GIS, and high-resolution digital elevation models to quantify geomorphic changes. His work examines both natural geomorphic processes and anthropogenic impacts on landscape evolution, with particular attention to mountain environments.
His publication record demonstrates a consistent research trajectory focused on landslide dynamics and fluvial-landslide interactions. He has developed expertise in applying cutting-edge remote sensing technologies to quantify geomorphic changes, with particular emphasis on sediment transport processes, slope stability, and channel morphology in mountainous regions. His research spans multiple sub-disciplines within geomorphology and has increasingly incorporated climate change considerations in recent years.
- Award of the Association of Polish Geomorphologists for the best doctoral thesis in the field of geomorphology (2023)
- Distinction of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the doctoral dissertation entitled 'Interaction of landslides and river channels in the Polish Flysch Carpathians' (2021)
Dr. Cebulski maintains active research collaborations across multiple institutions in Poland and internationally. His current postdoctoral position at Sapienza Università di Roma is part of the BAD2BED project funded through the Italian National Project PRIN2022, indicating significant research funding and international recognition. He has participated in numerous research projects including studies on the influence of downhill skiing on morphodynamics in high-mountain catchments and the structure and functioning of geographical environments under climate change.
Within the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Dr. Cebulski works as part of the Department of Geoenvironmental Research, Geographic Information Systems and Cartography Team. His research utilizes advanced geospatial technologies including terrestrial laser scanning stations for monitoring geomorphic changes in mountain environments, with particular focus on the Polish Carpathians.
