Jari Aromaa is a Senior University Lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Aalto University. He holds a Doctoral degree (1994), Licentiate (1988), and Master's degree (1985) in Engineering and Technology from Helsinki University of Technology. His research focuses on electrochemical processes, corrosion science, hydrometallurgy, and sustainable materials engineering.
Dr. Aromaa's work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to affordable and clean energy, industry innovation, and responsible consumption. His research interests include electrorefining, leaching processes, and corrosion mechanisms in metallurgical systems. Recent projects investigate sodium sulfate electrodialysis in lithium production and copper corrosion in repository conditions.
He has authored over 260 publications, with recent articles emphasizing spectrophotometric analysis of arsine gas, life cycle assessments for lithium production, and optimizing cathode quality in copper electrorefining. He has led five research projects, including the OXCOR series studying copper corrosion in nuclear waste repositories.
Awarded numerous grants, including funding from Business Finland and the Finnish Government, his work bridges academic research with industrial applications. He actively participates in conferences like the Nordic Corrosion Congress and the Conference of Metallurgists, contributing to editorial boards and program committees.
