Dr. Jared Bok is an Associate Professor in Sociology and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno, within the College of Liberal Arts. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Emory University and researches religion, culture, organizations, and globalization, with specific focus on evangelical practices, religious moderates, and transnational activism.
His research explores religious organizations, cultural practices in sacred spaces, and the dynamics of transnational mission agencies. Bok teaches courses including Sociology of Contemporary Culture, Religion and Society, and Quantitative Methods.
Bok has received multiple awards including the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Teaching (2021) and research grants from the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion. He mentors numerous graduate students and serves on thesis committees across sociology and anthropology departments.
His recent publications analyze Protestant mission agency trends, cultural reproduction in arts, and the impact of social capital on transnational activism. Bok also leads the Religious Studies Working Group and organizes the annual L.J. and Linda Kutten Endowed Lecture Series.
