Prof. Jannis Bischof holds the Chair of Business Administration and Management Accounting at the University of Mannheim since 2015. His research focuses on financial transparency, regulation of financial institutions, and managerial reporting practices. He leads the TRR 266 Research Center 'Accounting for Transparency' and serves as Research Fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Financial Research (SAFE).
Education: PhD and habilitation from the University of Mannheim, with research stays at Harvard University and ESSEC Business School. Previously, he was Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt and Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Teaching includes courses on management accounting, cost accounting, IFRS regulation, and a PhD-level empirical accounting research seminar. Active editorial roles include co-editor of the Journal of Business Economics and editorial board member of Accounting and Business Research.
Key contributions involve advising the European Parliament on IFRS and chairing the Prechel Foundation. His recent work addresses ESG in supply chains, corporate emissions costs, and banking sector risk disclosures.
Recognitions include the MaFAT Research Award for student supervision and leadership roles in academic governance (Mannheim Business School Supervisory Board).
