Janne von Seggern is a doctoral student and research assistant at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Philosophy I, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor's degree in European Ethnology and Asian/African Regional Studies from Humboldt University Berlin
- Master's degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology from Freie Universität Berlin
Janne's research focuses on Environmental Anthropology, particularly human-environment and human-human interactions, and the anthropology of climate change. She also investigates Education for Sustainable Development, Engaged Anthropology, Postcolonial Perspectives, and issues related to International Cooperation, Flight and Migration. Her geographical focus spans Oceania (Hawaiʻi and Fiji), Germany, and the MENA Region.
Janne has received a DAAD scholarship to support her fieldwork in Hawaiʻi on ʻāina-based education. She has also been involved in a monitoring project on the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Germany as part of the UNESCO ESD program.

From 2019 to 2022, Janne worked as a research associate at the Institut Futur (Future Institute) of the Free University of Berlin. Since 2023, she has served as co-spokesperson for the Oceania regional group of the German Society for Social and Cultural Anthropology.
Janne's current doctoral research examines Indigenous educational concepts in the context of sustainability in Oceania.
