Janne Halme is a University Lecturer and Vice Head of the Department of Applied Physics at Aalto University, with a focus on Energy Materials & Interfaces. She holds a Docent title in New Energy Technologies and Solar Energy (2012) and a PhD in Engineering and Technology from Helsinki University of Technology (2009). Her research bridges physics, engineering, and art, concentrating on sustainable solar energy technologies like colored photovoltaics, dye-sensitized solar cells, and nature-inclusive energy systems. She leads the Sun-Powered Textiles project (2019–2022) and collaborates internationally on eco-conscious energy solutions. Key areas include bio-inspired materials, optical coatings, and transdisciplinary art-science projects.
Her work emphasizes ecological sustainability, aiming to design energy systems that actively restore ecosystems. Notable contributions include innovations in perovskite solar cell durability, bio-inspired self-cleaning surfaces, and UV-based material decontamination.
