Jannath Begum Ali is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for Brain and Cognitive Development, School of Psychology, Birkbeck College. Her research focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders in infants and young children, with particular attention to autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and conditions like Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). She investigates sensory processing, executive function, sleep patterns, and early biomarkers linked to neurodevelopmental outcomes. Her work integrates behavioral assessments, neuroimaging (e.g., fNIRS), and genetic analysis to understand developmental trajectories.
Key research themes include:
- Early predictors of ASD/ADHD traits in high-risk infants
- Neurobehavioral correlates of sensory and motor differences
- Impact of familial and genetic liabilities on developmental outcomes
- Intervention strategies for at-risk populations (e.g., INTERSTAARS trial)
Notable collaborations include the STAARS and BASIS longitudinal cohorts, focusing on infants with familial risk for neurodevelopmental conditions. Her studies highlight the importance of sleep, attention, and sensory processing in shaping developmental pathways. Current projects examine data-sharing attitudes in developmental science and the role of excitation-inhibition balance in neurodevelopmental disorders.
Her work has been supported by grants such as the 'SleepySTAARS' feasibility study funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). She contributes to interdisciplinary teams exploring cross-condition neurodevelopmental mechanisms.
