Jann Scheuer serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen. Her research centers on language-in-interaction dynamics across institutional contexts, with particular focus on Danish sociolinguistic landscapes and identity construction through verbal practices.
Her research program encompasses:
- Verbal interaction analysis in job interviews and appraisal sessions within Danish elementary schools
- Gender representation and language use patterns
- Linguistic variation in urban multiethnic neighborhoods versus rural mono-ethnic communities
- Dialect preservation mechanisms in peripheral Danish regions across generational cohorts
Analysis of her recent publications reveals methodological consistency in combining discourse analysis with acoustic phonetics to investigate how language reflects social categorizations. Her work demonstrates particular expertise in adolescent language practices as markers of local identity formation across diverse Danish contexts from Southern Jutland to Bornholm Island.
Scheuer has secured significant research funding including The Danish Council for Independent Research grant for the LaPUR project (examining urban-rural language variation) and The Velux Foundation support for the Dialect in the Periphery project (comparing Hirtshals, Southern Jutland, and Bornholm). She previously contributed academic service as editor of Danske Talesprog journal (2007-2016) and as member of Akademisk Råd (2011-2016), while maintaining active collaboration with researchers across Danish institutions.
