Janis Timm-Bottos is an Associate Professor in Art Therapy and Creative Arts Therapies at Concordia University's Faculty of Fine Arts, and currently serves as the Provost's Fellow for Community Engagement. She is a board-certified art therapist with expertise in community art studios as therapeutic spaces. Her work focuses on fostering healing and social change through participatory art practices.
Her research interests include community arts, art hives, inclusion/exclusion dynamics, and critical disability studies. She has pioneered initiatives like ArtStreet (Albuquerque), OFFCenter Community Arts Project, and La Ruche d'Art, a storefront studio in St. Henri. These projects emphasize free, accessible community art spaces to promote belonging and civic engagement.
As Provost’s Fellow, she leads Concordia’s community-university partnerships, including a new art hive collaboration with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Her advocacy highlights the transformative potential of grassroots art practices in urban futures and ethnocultural diversity.
