Jani A. Johnson

Jani A. Johnson is an Associate Professor at the University of Memphis, affiliated with the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders. She has been on the faculty since 2016, previously serving as a Research Assistant Professor (2011–2016) and Research Audiologist (2007–2011). She directs the Hearing Aid Research Laboratory (HARL), focusing on improving diagnostic and rehabilitative procedures for individuals with hearing loss. Dr. Johnson holds a B.S. in Communication Disorders from Auburn University (2003), an Au.D. (2007), and a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Memphis (2011).

Her research interests include multicultural issues in audiology, adult aural rehabilitation, and psychosocial adjustment to hearing loss. She teaches courses such as Introduction to Hearing Aids, Aging and Adult Audiologic Rehabilitation, and Evidence-Based Practices in Amplification. Her work emphasizes advancing hearing aid technology and culturally responsive care.
