Professor Juha Janhunen is a distinguished academic in East Asian and Finno-Ugrian Studies at the University of Helsinki since 1994. He has held the Chair of Finno-Ugrian Studies at the University of Oslo (1994) and served as Director of the Institute for Asian and African Studies (2004–2006). His career spans over four decades, with significant contributions to linguistic fieldwork and research in Asia.

Janhunen has received international recognition, including election to Academia Europaea (2008) and fellowship in the Royal Asiatic Society (1986). He has held leadership roles in academic societies and cultural associations, such as President of the Finnish-Tibetan Cultural Association since 2004.
