Janet Hill is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology at the University of Saskatchewan's Western College of Veterinary Medicine. Her research focuses on microbial ecology, diagnostic methods for detecting microbial pathogens, and the structure and function of complex microbial communities in humans and animals. She holds a BSc (Honours Biology) and PhD in Virology from Queen's University, Canada.
Her work integrates molecular techniques such as cpn60-based microbiome profiling and genomic analysis to study pathogens and microbial communities. Recent studies include investigating antibiotic resistance in livestock pathogens, viral tropism in bats, and the role of Gardnerella species in vaginal microbiome dynamics.
Publications emphasize diagnostic tool development, microbial community analysis, and zoonotic pathogen surveillance. The Hill Lab collaborates widely, with projects ranging from bat virology to bovine respiratory disease and maternal-infant microbiome interactions.
