Jane Turner is a Professor at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) within the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education & Social Justice, School of Design. Her research focuses on game design, human-computer interaction (HCI), and more-than-human futures. She is a leading figure in designing games and interactive experiences that address environmental sustainability, decolonial perspectives, and community engagement. Turner’s work often bridges art, technology, and social science, emphasizing collaborative world-building and placemaking.
Her key projects include organizing the annual Game On Festival, a public event showcasing innovative games and fostering community connections. She has authored and co-authored numerous publications on topics such as neurodivergence empathy frameworks, decolonial storytelling, and tangible embodied interfaces (TEIs). Turner’s research also explores digital narratives and the intersection of technology with cultural heritage, exemplified in projects like 'Kinning with the Unseen More-Than-Human,' which reconnects communities with natural environments.
In 2024, her work on 'Making-With the More-Than-Human' and 'Crossing Abyssal Lines' demonstrated her commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and futurism. Turner has held editorial roles for conferences like OzCHI and contributed to academic volumes on smart cities and game studies. Her PhD (2016) by publication further solidifies her expertise in games as cultural and spatial storytelling mediums.
