Jane Pacht Brickman

Dr. Jane Pacht Brickman is a Professor in the Department of Humanities at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in Kings Point, New York, since 1983. She previously served as Head of the Department of Humanities (1994–2011) and as Women's Advisor to female midshipmen during the academy's early integration of women. She chairs the Human Relations Committee, promoting gender and racial equity.

Education: Ph.D. in History (City University of New York Graduate Center), MA and BA in History (Queens College, CUNY). Research focuses on medical history (e.g., McCarthyism’s impact on medicine) and women’s integration into male-dominated fields. She has published in journals like Naval Institute Proceedings and Journal of Public Health Policy, and authored a chapter in Comrades in Health (2013). Currently leads an oral history project on women’s roles in the maritime industry.

Her teaching spans American History, Philosophy, and Ethical Studies. Recent work includes a 2008 presentation on women’s maritime experiences at the International Multidisciplinary Women’s Congress in Turkey.
