Dr. Jane Nolan is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the HAS - Health and Social Sciences department. She joined UWE in 2015 after completing her PhD at the University of Queensland. Prior to this, she held roles at the University of South Wales, Queensland University of Technology, Cardiff University, and others. Her expertise spans gender, sex, sexuality, and social control, with a focus on stigmatization of sex workers and intersections with racism, homophobia, and transphobia.

Research Interests:
Her research examines the gendered dimensions of 'whore stigma,' strategies for managing/resisting stigma among sex workers, and broader topics like community regeneration, anti-social behavior, homelessness, homicide, and domestic abuse. She has also published on child homicide, prisoner resettlement, and the use of sexually explicit material in higher education.
