Professor Jane Hawkes is a renowned scholar in the History of Art at the University of York, specializing in early medieval art, particularly Anglo-Saxon sculpture and Insular art. She holds roles including Director of the PhD Programme and Library and Digitisation Officer. Her research explores cultural cross-currents between Ireland, Britain, and Europe, focusing on late antique and medieval art’s iconography and historiography.
Education: BA (Hons) English Literature, MA, and PhD (Newcastle University). Awards include the Barbara Strang Memorial Prize and British Academy Studentship. She has led major projects like the Corpus of Anglo-Saxon Stone Sculpture and contributed to exhibitions such as Constantine the Great: York’s Roman Emperor.
