Jane Freedman

Jane Freedman is a Professor at University Paris 8 and leader of the GRABS project, affiliated with the Paris Center for Social and Political Research (CRESPPA). Her work centers on forced migration experiences of young people through intersectional and postcolonial frameworks, with active project leadership including international collaborations and community engagement initiatives.

Her research spans migration studies, border dynamics, and youth experiences in displacement contexts. Recent activities include chairing the "Growing Up Across Borders" panel at the 2025 IMISCOE Annual Conference, presenting at the University of Manchester's Asylum and Refugee Research Group, launching an online survey for migrants aged 15-25, and producing a project podcast series. These efforts demonstrate applied research translation into community resources and academic discourse.

The GRABS project maintains partnerships with Panteion University (Athens), Saint Mary's University (Halifax), and non-profit organizations. It has engaged Master's students from Paris 8 University in developing educational modules like "Story" and "Repetition" virtual classes, with project outputs disseminated through videos and online courses since 2017 despite pandemic constraints.
