Jane A. Siegel is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Rutgers University–Camden. She served as department chair from 2015 to 2018 and has taught courses such as juvenile delinquency, statistics, and corrections. In Fall 2015, she participated in the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program, teaching a course at South Woods State Prison with incarcerated individuals and Rutgers students. Her research focuses on children of incarcerated parents, family dynamics in criminal justice, and juvenile justice systems.
Her work has been supported by grants from the National Institute of Justice, the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect, and the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission. She is conducting a large-scale survey on family visitation in a major urban jail system and a follow-up study on the children interviewed for her book Disrupted Childhoods: Children of Women in Prison (Rutgers University Press, 2011).
