Jan Willem Sap is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, with affiliations to the Kooijmans Institute and Boundaries of Law. His research focuses on constitutional law, religion-law intersections, and EU legal frameworks. He holds editorial roles at journals like European Constitutional Law Review and Philosophia Reformata, and serves on boards of organizations such as Stichting dr. A. Kuyperfonds and Vereniging Democratisch Europa. He has received prestigious awards including the VU Teaching Prize (2001) and the Jhr. mr. A.F. de Savornin Lohman Prijs (1993). His teaching includes courses on European Law fundamentals and Religion and Law. Active in academic networks, he contributes to the Netherlands Network for Human Rights Research and the Centrum voor Religie en Recht.
