Jan Voosholz

Dr. Jan Voosholz serves as Scientific Director of the International Center for Philosophy and Researcher at the Chair of Epistemology, Modern and Contemporary Philosophy at the University of Bonn's Institute of Philosophy. He is also a Member of the Center for Science and Thought (CST). Currently on research semester at the University of Sydney for winter semester 2025/2026, he remains actively engaged in philosophical research and academic leadership.

Dr. Voosholz's research spans three interconnected domains:

• Ontology and metaphysics: Specializing in speculative and new realism, realism-antirealism debates, naturalism, causality, modality, philosophy of time, and integrating classical modern, post-analytic, post-structuralist, and feminist approaches
• Philosophy of science: Focusing on classical analytical philosophy, general theory of science, theories of causality and emergence, and incorporating discourse-analytic, feminist, and decolonial science critique with structural realism
• Epistemology: Investigating ancient, early modern and modern skepticism, naturalism, Wittgenstein, logical empiricism and positivism, the problem of induction, and theories of truth

His recent publication trajectory reveals a sophisticated engagement with contemporary philosophical movements, particularly new and speculative realism (with emphasis on Markus Gabriel and Meillassoux), top-down causation theory, and the philosophical implications of artificial intelligence. This work demonstrates remarkable interdisciplinary range while maintaining rigorous philosophical analysis.

As Scientific Director of the International Center for Philosophy, Dr. Voosholz fosters an environment for cutting-edge philosophical inquiry that bridges traditional philosophical concerns with contemporary scientific and technological challenges, particularly in physics, mathematics, and AI development.
