معرفی
Jan Van Herle is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the School of Engineering (STI) and the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IGM). He leads the JVH Group at EPFL Valais Wallis campus in Sion, where his team of 18 collaborators engages in 17 active R&D projects across Switzerland and Europe, focused on fuel cell and electrolyzer technology.
His research centers on high-temperature ceramic fuel cells, emphasizing:
- Assembly/characterization of cells and stacks
- Spectroscopic analysis of electrochemical systems
- Catalysis and membrane development
- Reverse operation of fuel cells as steam co-electrolyzers
- Thermomechanical modeling of energy systems
Recent publications (2008) predominantly address solid oxide fuel cell degradation, electrochemical oxidation processes, and advanced materials characterization. A consistent focus is observed on boron-doped diamond electrodes for environmental applications and thermal/mechanical modeling of fuel cell stacks.
He actively contributes to institutional governance, having served on STI Faculty and School Assembly committees (2008-2016), and currently presides over the Personnel Section for Executive Staff at EPFL.
