معرفی
Professor Jan Vahrenhold is a faculty member at the Institute of Computer Science, University of Münster, where he leads the Efficient Algorithms and Algorithm Engineering research group. His core activities revolve around teaching, research, and academic service, with regular office hours every Tuesday and active involvement in supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses.
Research Interests:
- Design and analysis of algorithms and data structures, especially for geometry-related problems.
- Algorithm engineering with a focus on I/O efficiency and cache performance.
- Computer-science education research, including misconceptions in programming and didactic strategies for lower-secondary education.
Teaching & Supervision:
Across the past decade he has delivered foundational undergraduate lectures such as Informatik I/II and Diskrete Strukturen, specialised master-level courses like Algorithmische Geometrie, and practical modules in Java programming and scientific work methods. He co-coordinates weekly seminars and project tracks, and participates in the institute-wide colloquium.
Labs & Teams:
He heads the “Efficient Algorithms and Algorithm Engineering” group; current members include post-docs and doctoral candidates such as Maria Herick, Jacqueline Strob, Thore Thießen, and Carolin Wortmann. Together they run research projects that bridge algorithmic theory with real-world applications in education and psychology.
