Jan Stage is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University, affiliated with The Technical Faculty of IT and Design. His research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), usability evaluation, and user-centered design (UCD). He has led and participated in numerous projects, including the ABCDE project (Agile Bruger-Centreret Design og Evaluering) as Project Manager and the InfinIT Innovation Network as a key participant. His work emphasizes integrating usability into software development processes and improving educational practices in UCD through methods like design sprints and collaborative learning.
Stage has contributed to over 179 publications, spanning conference proceedings, journals, and books. His recent work explores remote usability testing, asynchronous methods, and the application of UX principles in public services and healthcare. He has also edited conference proceedings, such as NordiCHI 2020, and served as an editor for journals like CEUR Workshop Proceedings and Behaviour & Information Technology.
His research interests include usability evaluation methodologies, software development integration, and educational innovations in HCI. He has advised two PhD students and actively engages with media, contributing insights on digital services and agile methodologies. Stage’s projects often bridge academic research with practical applications, addressing challenges in healthcare, public services, and small- to medium-sized enterprises.
Key collaborations include work with organizations like Færch, Nordjyllandsamt, and various Danish public sectors. He has organized conferences like NordiCHI 2020 and conducted field studies in usability evaluation practices across different cultural contexts, such as Costa Rica and Denmark.
