Jan Krabicka

Dr Jan Krabicka is a Lecturer and Programme Leader in the School of Engineering at the University of Greenwich. His academic roles include coordinating courses in digital electronics, embedded systems, and engineering mathematics, as well as overseeing final-year projects and programme administration for computer engineering programmes. Previously, he served as a Research Associate at the University of Kent, where his work on combustion flame radical imaging earned him the Best Poster Prize at the 2009 Institute of Physics Conference for 'Sensors and Their Applications XV.'

Dr Krabicka’s research interests span computer engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, and engineering management. His work integrates environmental sustainability with technological innovation, particularly in healthcare settings. He has developed systems to monitor energy usage and induce pro-environmental behavior in clinical environments, such as the NHS case studies highlighted in his recent publications. His earlier research focused on combustion processes, leveraging spectroscopic imaging and neural networks to predict emissions and optimize industrial processes.

His publications reflect a dual focus: energy efficiency in healthcare and sensor-based solutions for industrial optimization. Key contributions include thermal imaging for occupancy monitoring, electrostatic sensors for particle velocity measurement, and persuasive technology to reduce energy costs. Dr Krabicka’s interdisciplinary approach bridges engineering, environmental science, and healthcare management, addressing both technical and human factors in sustainable systems.
