Jan Kohlhaase

Jan Kohlhaase is a Professor in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. He leads the Research Group Kohlhaase and is actively involved in teaching and research in advanced algebra and arithmetic geometry. His office is located at Thea-Leymann-Straße 9, Essen, and he maintains regular office hours by appointment.

His research centers on the representation theory of p-adic Lie groups and its deep connections to number theory and arithmetic geometry. Key areas include:

• Locally analytic and smooth representations in natural characteristic
• Moduli spaces of p-divisible groups and their equivariant vector bundles
• p-adic Galois representations
• The p-adic Langlands program
• Vector bundles on the Fargues-Fontaine curve

He teaches a variety of graduate and advanced undergraduate courses, including Algebraic Geometry, Algebraic Number Theory, p-adic Galois Representations, and specialized seminars on cutting-edge topics. He is a key instructor in the ALGANT master program, offering courses in English for international students.

Jan Kohlhaase supervises numerous PhD and Master’s students, with recent theses covering topics such as modular representation theory, derived categories, condensed mathematics, and p-adic Hodge theory. Former PhD students include Dr. Virginie Gaillard, Dr. Marc Kohlhaw, Dr. Gürkan Dogan, and Dr. Mihir Sheth.
