Jan Kleint

Jan Kleint is a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany, affiliated with the Department of Symbiosis. The department, led by Prof. Dr. Nicole Dubilier, investigates biological and ecological aspects of tight associations between bacteria and eukaryotes in marine environments.

Research interests focus on marine symbiosis systems, particularly in chemosynthetic environments including sulfide-rich coastal sediments, hydrothermal vents, and cold seeps. The department examines marine invertebrates and their microbial partners in these extreme habitats.

As part of the Max Planck Society research structure, the institute hosts over 200 employees from more than 30 countries working across various marine microbiology disciplines from Arctic to tropical regions.
