Dr. Jan-Hendrik Evertse is an Associate Professor at the Mathematical Institute of Leiden University, specializing in Number Theory. He has been a member of the Algebra, Geometry and Number Theory group since 1993, advancing to Associate Professor in 2021. His research spans Diophantine approximation, Diophantine equations, and Diophantine inequalities, with notable contributions to the Thue-Mahler equation, Schmidt's Subspace Theorem, and decomposable form equations. He co-authored three books with Kálmán Győry, including Unit Equations in Diophantine Number Theory (2015) and Discriminant Equations in Diophantine Number Theory (2016).
Research Interests:
- Diophantine approximation
- Finiteness problems for Diophantine equations
- Estimates for solutions of Diophantine inequalities
- Applications to algebraic geometry and cryptography
Recent Publications: His work focuses on effective finiteness results for Diophantine equations over finitely generated domains, generalizations of the Subspace Theorem, and symmetric improvements of Liouville's inequality, with a 2022 book on Effective Results and Methods for Diophantine Equations over Finitely Generated Domains.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellowship of KNAW (1988-1993)
Teaching and Mentorship: He has supervised three PhD students and taught courses ranging from basic number theory to advanced topics like Diophantine approximation. He also organized workshops and conferences, including the 2007 instructional conference on Solvability of Diophantine Equations.
