Jan Gunnar Hoff

Jan Gunnar Hoff is a Professor at the University of Agder in Kristiansand, Norway, and maintains a secondary affiliation with the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. As one of Norway's leading jazz pianists, he has released 23 albums and composed over 250 works, earning the prestigious Buddy Award (2013) and Edvard Prize (2005) for his jazz mass Meditatus. Hoff has performed globally, including in New York, London, Tokyo, and Istanbul, and collaborates with renowned artists like Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, and Arve Henriksen.

Hoff's research and artistic output focus on Nordic jazz and improvisational music. His compositions, such as Stille Lys / Quiet Light (2021), blend classical influences with jazz. Recent projects include the Hoff Somsen Lindholm Trio, which emphasizes original compositions inspired by Keith Jarrett, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Vince Mendoza. Hoff's work has been performed by choirs across the USA, Canada, and Europe, and he continues to release critically acclaimed albums like Home (2022) and Polarity (2018).
