معرفی
Jan Ellenberg is a Senior Scientist at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany, where he has held leadership roles since 2006. He serves as Head of the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit and as Coordinator for the Centre for Molecular and Cellular Imaging at EMBL. Additionally, he has been pivotal in the Euro-BioImaging project since 2010, first as Scientific Coordinator and later as EMBL Delegate to the Euro-BioImaging Interim Board.
- PhD (summa cum laude) in biochemistry, 1998 (NIH, Bethesda, USA and Freie Universität Berlin, Germany)
- Diploma in biology, 1994 (Universität Hamburg, Germany)
Ellenberg's research spans cell biology, systems biology, and advanced imaging technologies. His work focuses on cell division, nuclear biology, and the development of super-resolution and light-sheet microscopy. He investigates mitotic and meiotic processes, nuclear pore complex dynamics, and pre-implantation mammalian development, integrating biophysics with molecular biology.
His contributions to imaging infrastructure and nuclear biology have garnered significant recognition. Key awards include the Allen Distinguished Investigator award (2017), ERC Advanced Investigator grant (2016), and an honorary doctorate from Åbo Akademi University (2016). He has also received prestigious medals such as the Walter Flemming Medal (2004) and the Matthias Jakob Schleiden Lecture (2015).
- 2017 Allen Distinguished Investigator
- 2016 ERC Advanced Investigator
- 2016 Honorary Doctor of Philosophy, Åbo Akademi University
- 2004 Walter Flemming Medal
- 2004 ELSO Early Career Award
- 2002 Nikon Fellow
Ellenberg is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) since 2006 and a founding member of the European Light Microscopy Initiative (ELMI). He has been involved in organizing major scientific meetings, including chairing the 2011 Program Committee of the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB).
