Jan Budňák is an Assistant Professor at Masaryk University's Faculty of Arts, affiliated with the Department of German, Nordic and Dutch Studies. His academic journey includes a Master's in English and German Philology from Palacký University Olomouc (2002) and a Ph.D. in German Literature from the same institution (2007). Since 2005, he has taught German literature spanning the 17th-19th centuries, postwar literature, and academic writing.
Budňák's research examines German literature from Bohemia and Moravia, focusing on national identity, interwar journalism, cross-cultural representation, and literary fields in bilingual contexts. His work frequently explores how German-Czech relations manifest in literature, with emphasis on nationalism, proletarian movements, and modernist transformations.
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on German-Czech literary intersections, particularly analyzing journalistic practices, national stereotypes in literature, and interwar intellectual circles. Recent works explore leftist women writers in Prague and post-imperial identity in Austro-Hungarian successor states.
