Jan-Anders E. Mansson

Dr. Jan-Anders E. Mansson is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering and Chemical Engineering at Purdue University's College of Engineering, serving as Director of the Composite Manufacturing and Simulation Center (CMSC), Co-Executive Director for the Indiana Manufacturing Competitiveness Center (IN-MaC), and Executive Director of the Ray Ewry Sports Engineering Center.

He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology (1981) and has held professorial appointments at the University of Washington, Royal Institute of Technology, and EPFL prior to joining Purdue in 2016.

Professor Mansson's research focuses on Composite Materials, Additive Manufacturing, Sports Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, and Materials Science, emphasizing novel cost-effective materials, manufacturing methods, and industrial scaling strategies for automotive, aerospace, medical, and sports applications.

His notable scientific awards include:

• World Fellow of the International Committee on Composite Materials
• Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA)
• Member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW)

He has led significant research initiatives including founding the Manufacturing Design Laboratory (MDLab) as an Industry 4.0 Composite Manufacturing testbed and establishing EELCEE Ltd. for High-Volume Composites and Additive Manufacturing. His leadership extends to administrative roles such as Head of Materials Department at EPFL (2000-2004) and Vice-President for Innovation and Technology Transfer at EPFL (2004-2008).

Professor Mansson directs multiple laboratories and teams including the CMSC, MDLab, and Ray Ewry Sports Engineering Center (collaborating with Purdue Athletics and the IOC), while serving as Chairman of FINA's Swimwear Approval Committee and on IOC’s Athlete365 Learning Gateway Board.
