Jamie Trinidad

Dr. Jamie Trinidad is a Fellow of Wolfson College at the University of Cambridge and is affiliated with the Faculty of Law. He serves as the Director of Studies for LLM students and is associated with the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law. Trinidad completed his PhD at Wolfson College and was elected as a Fellow in 2013.

His research focuses on public international law, constitutional law, and human rights, with particular expertise in self-determination issues, territorial disputes, and the constitutional arrangements of British Overseas Territories. He has a special interest in questions surrounding decolonization, territory, self-determination, and the law and practice of international courts and tribunals.

Trinidad's scholarly work shows a consistent focus on decolonization processes, territorial disputes, and the role of international courts. His publications span topics from the Chagos Archipelago advisory proceedings to the disputed waters around Gibraltar, demonstrating his expertise in complex territorial sovereignty issues. He has also made significant contributions to understanding amicus curiae interventions in international proceedings and the application of international law to contemporary challenges like public health and environmental concerns.

As a legal practitioner, Trinidad qualified at the Bar of England and Wales in 2001 (as a member of Lincoln's Inn) and at the Bar of Gibraltar in 2005. He serves as a Senior Counsel at Albertson (14 Old Square, Lincoln's Inn) and as a consultant at Isolas LLP, Gibraltar's oldest law firm. This dual role as both academic and practitioner provides him with unique insights that inform his scholarly work.

Trinidad has established himself as a leading scholar in international law, particularly in areas related to decolonization and territorial disputes, with significant contributions through monographs, edited volumes, and numerous peer-reviewed articles.
