Jamie Caplan serves as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Fire Science and Professional Studies department of the University of New Haven's Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, teaching EMGT 6602: Principles and Practices of Hazard Mitigation.
Her expertise centers on emergency management with specialized focus on hazard mitigation planning, leveraging over two decades of professional experience. She has developed mitigation strategies for unique jurisdictions including the Territory of American Samoa and multiple Native American Tribes. Key projects include:
- Prime Contractor for Connecticut's South Central Regional Council of Governments (SCRCOG) Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan covering ten jurisdictions
- Multi-hazard risk assessment for University of Massachusetts Amherst
- Collaboration with FEMA Headquarters to develop national mitigation-planning guidance and training courses
Through her consulting firm Jamie Caplan Consulting LLC (JCC), she delivers comprehensive services across all disaster management phases: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
