Dr. Jamie Ascher (she/her) serves as a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), joining the faculty in Fall 2024. She teaches COMS 101: Introduction to Public Speaking and has established herself as an award-winning educator with expertise in critical discourse analysis.
Her academic credentials include:

- B.A. in Communication Studies, University of Georgia (2017)
Dr. Ascher's research critically examines intersections of race, memory, and cultural representation through rhetorical analysis. Her work interrogates how public spaces and media artifacts construct racial narratives, with particular focus on Confederate memory sites and Black horror cinema as tools for social critique. Her thesis analyzed Jordan Peele's Get Out through feminist consciousness-raising frameworks, while her forthcoming dissertation investigates Stone Mountain Park's narrativization of Confederate heritage.
