James Woodcock is Professor of Software Engineering at the University of York, where he served as Head of Department from 2012–2016. He holds positions as a visiting professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil) and Trinity College Dublin. His research focuses on tools, algorithms for autonomous robotic control, and high-integrity systems engineering. He has held roles at the University of Surrey, Oxford’s Programming Research Group (under Sir Tony Hoare), and the University of Kent before joining York in 2004.

Research Interests: Woodcock specializes in software engineering methodologies, formal methods, and the development of robust systems for autonomous robotics.
