Dr. James Wilkinson is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Salford's School of Science, Engineering & Environment, affiliated with the Biomedical Research Centre. He completed his BSc, MSc, and PhD at King's College London (1985-1992) and held postdoctoral positions at Salford and Sheffield universities before joining Salford as a lecturer in 2000.
His research focuses on medicinal chemistry with emphasis on:
- Developing anti-cancer agents targeting medulloblastoma metastasis
- Designing glycomimetics for therapeutic applications
- Malaria drug discovery through lead optimization and repositioning
- Novel synthetic methodologies for bioactive molecules
His recent publications demonstrate strong focus on cancer therapeutics (67%), synthetic methodology (25%), and malaria research (8%), with consistent output since 2004 showing expertise in asymmetric synthesis and medicinal chemistry applications.
Dr. Wilkinson actively supervises PhD students and contributes to teaching across organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and biochemistry programs.
