Dr. James Walsh is an Associate Professor in Criminology and Justice at Ontario Tech University's Faculty of Social Science and Humanities. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and previously served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Richmond and Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania's Social Science and Policy Forum. His research focuses on surveillance, borders, law and society, and crime and media.
Walsh's work examines how technological change impacts societal reactions to crime, with a particular interest in media representations of criminal justice. His publications analyze connections between digital communication technologies and cultural perceptions of crime.
He maintains an active media presence, providing expert commentary on policing and social media in criminal investigations.
