James Wadley is Professor of Counseling and Human Services at Lincoln University's School of Adult & Continuing Education, maintaining an active private counseling practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey while bridging clinical work with academic scholarship in human sexuality and counseling.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Education (Educational Leadership and Human Sexuality Education) from the University of Pennsylvania
- M.S. in Education (School Psychology) from the University of Kentucky
- B.A. in Psychology from Hampton University
- Clinical postgraduate certificate from Thomas Jefferson University/Council for Relationships
Dr. Wadley's research focuses on sexual decision-making among young adults, masculinity development, non-custodial fatherhood conceptions, and HIV/AIDS prevention. His international work in Rwanda, Tanzania, and South Africa addresses trauma from genocide, sexuality education, and addiction recovery, culminating in the documentary Raw to Reel: Race, Drugs, and Sex in Trenton, New Jersey and foundational texts like The Art of Sex Therapy Supervision.
His scientific recognition includes:
- AASECT’s 2019 Book of the Year Award for co-editing The Art of Sex Therapy Supervision
As an educator, he authored twenty-two graduate courses for Lincoln University and co-authored thirteen doctoral courses for the Theological Seminary of Puerto Rico, while developing curricula at institutions including the University of Muhimbili (Tanzania) and Cape Peninsula University of Technology (South Africa). He founded the Association of Black Sexologists and Clinicians and serves as founding editor of the Journal of Black Sexuality and Relationships, driving global collaboration in sexology scholarship and practice.
