James Titah is the Allen Hiebert Chair of Sciences at Tabor College, where he holds the rank of Professor in the Department of Chemistry. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, and holds M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees from the University of Buea, Cameroon. His professional background includes roles as an Instructor at Red Deer College, Concordia University of Edmonton, and the University of Regina, as well as a Foreign Professor at Hubei Polytechnic University and Jilin Institute of Chemical Technology.
Titah’s research focuses on Bio-Inorganic Synthetic Chemistry and Computational/Theoretical Chemistry. His lab synthesizes Schiff-Base Ligands derived from amino acids and their transition metal complexes, with applications in pharmaceuticals and industrial materials. Recent work includes 'Green Chemistry' methods using microwave-assisted synthesis for eco-friendly compound production. Collaborative efforts involve computational analyses of metal hydrides for hydrogen storage and bacterial growth inhibition studies of ligands.
He has received awards such as the Best Chemistry Teacher (2004–2005) and multiple Hope Scholarship Awards (2020–2023). His service roles at Tabor include Science Club Coordinator and Safety Officer for the science building. Titah actively participates in conferences like the MidSouth Inorganic Chemists Association and the Atlantic Basin Conference on Chemistry, presenting on topics ranging from hydrogen storage materials to drug delivery systems.
His research group collaborates with computational chemists to model ligand-metal interactions and has pioneered studies on hydride-hydride bonding in metal alloys. Current projects emphasize green synthesis techniques and the development of novel chemotherapeutic compounds.
