James TRAVIS Eckner

James Travis Eckner is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan Medical School and Director of Clinical Research at Michigan NeuroSport. He collaborates with the sports medicine programs at the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, and the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.

His research focuses on mild traumatic brain injury (concussion) in athletes, including:

• Concussion assessment via clinical reaction time testing
• Neck strengthening interventions to reduce concussion risk
• Concussion biomechanics using impact sensors
• Long-term neurocognitive effects of head trauma in athletes

His scientific accolades include a K23 Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Eckner's clinical expertise spans Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He completed his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 2003 and residency at the University of Michigan Health System in 2007, and holds board certification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
