James Shelley is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Auburn University's College of Liberal Arts. He specializes in aesthetics, focusing on the philosophical analysis of beauty, aesthetic value, and perceptual experience. His recent work explores the cognitive and hedonistic dimensions of aesthetic evaluation.
Shelley holds the prestigious Lloyd and Sandra Nix Professorship and serves as Vice President of the American Society for Aesthetics. His research has been published in leading journals such as the Pacific Philosophical Quarterly and the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, with forthcoming contributions in edited volumes like Disinterested Pleasure and Beauty—Perspectives from Kantian and Contemporary Aesthetics.
